PLACEMENT TEST

To ensure that all students are placed in the most appropriate group for effective learning, all new students (except complete beginners) are required to take a placement test before registering for General French courses or themed French courses. To facilitate a smooth registration and placement testing process, we highly recommend registering early.

The placement tests results are valid for entry to courses in the immediate and following terms only – i.e. for a period of approximately 6 months.

Placement Test fees: Rs. 2000/-.


NUMBER OF STUDENTS PER CLASS
The number of students in each class may vary from 5 to 20 people. The classes will be filled by date of registration. Alliance Française de Colombo has the complete right to cancel a class with an insufficient number of students. When classes are cancelled, students can choose either to be a transferred to another class of the same level, or to be issued a full refund.



CONFIRMATION OF REGISTRATION

Registration will be confirmed only once full payment of the term fees is made at the counter or online. Please note that registration fees are non-transferable, and registration by telephone is not permitted. To enroll in any courses, all fees must be paid in full for the term.

Any refund will be proceeded according to our refund policy. No refund will be issued for unattended classes.
Registration in person at the counter is available during Alliance Française opening hours. For online registration, payment can be made by bank Transfer only.

PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION
The personal data of registration forms is for Alliance Française internal office purpose only. It won’t be used for any other purposes.

ADMISSION TO CLASSES
The course fees do not include learning material, textbooks, or Placement Test fees.
All Alliance Française classes are clearly scheduled. Therefore, students cannot ask for make-up courses and /or refund for non-receiving the notification that the class has already started.

The distribution of classrooms will be posted at the entrance of AF during the first week of each term.

External auditors are not allowed during any Alliance Française courses.
If a student seriously disturbs the class, the student may be requested to leave the class and may not be allowed to join any further classes of Alliance Française de Colombo.

CHANGE OF CLASS / DEFERMENT / MAKE-UP CLASS
If a student is unable to attend the class he has registered in :

  1. he can apply for a course transfer before the first day of class. The transfer will be confirmed by Alliance Française only if a seat in a similar class is available;
  2. he can defer his course to the immediate next session. The course can be deferred only once. Deferred classes may take place at different days and times as classes originally chosen.

If the student still cannot attend the class he was deferred to, the course fees will not be refunded.
Missed classes will not allow students to get a make-up course or a refund. In the event classes must be cancelled due to government decision, make-up courses will be arranged by Alliance Française.

PRIVATE LESSON TUITION
All private tuitions are defined by a Protocol of Understanding (POU).
If the student wishes to change the date or the time of the class, the student must inform Alliance Française by phone / Email at least one working day before the scheduled class.

No-shows as well as cancellations made less than 24 hours prior to the class will be fully charged to students.

Deferred private lesson tuition may be granted to students due to medical or other serious causes. In these cases, to obtain Alliance Française approval, students have to provide the necessary documents.
Private tuitions are non-refundable once they have started.

All students are requested to read the terms and conditions applied to registering to a French class at Alliance Française de Colombo before the registration. By registering for a class, students accept the above school policy.

Behavior

Students are expected to uphold the values of Alliance Française: respect, integrity, and inclusivity. When on the premises, students should maintain a calm demeanor, use appropriate language and tone, and follow staff instructions. A respectful and decent attitude is always essential.

Students who do not adhere to the values and rules of behavior in the classroom and on the premises may face exclusion.

Responsibility

Children under 18 remain under the responsibility of their parents/guardians before and after class hours.

Progression

Progression from one term to the next within the same level is determined by continuous assessment. Transitioning to a higher level requires evaluation. Students who do not meet the necessary standards for advancement will be directed to revisit some aspects of their previous level.

The quantity of hours to undergo a level in a group class is fixed as follows: A1 180h, A2 180h, B1 240h, B2 240h, C1 240h, C2 240h.

Communication

The Alliance Française utilizes Apolearn for all communications with students and their families. All students receive the necessary credentials to log in. Alert emails are automatically sent for any new information posted on the platform.

All meetings with a teacher must be requested through the academic department and will take place with a representative from the educational sector.
