Individual Lessons And Mini Groups

Personalised individual lessons can be organised for adults, teenagers, children at all levels of proficiency. Lessons may be taken one-on-one or in groups of two to three.

Choose to learn on-site at Alliance Française or office, or online.
For classes not held at the Alliance Française campus, extra fees may apply.

Among our very popular courses, we propose general French, conversation workshops, French for business, preparation of DELF-DALF, TEF, London and National O.L., A.L., etc.

The course content can be determined according to the student’s requirements.

**Minimum duration for on-site lessons (at AF or outside AF premises [for corporate classes]):

  • 2 hours per session,
  • Weekdays anytime between 09:00 – 18:00
  • Weekend anytime between 08:00 – 18:00

**Minimum duration for online lessons:

  • 1 hour per session,

Placement Tests

  1. If you have studied French before (all language competencies included reading, writing, speaking and listening), a placement test ensures a more accurate positioning within the CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
  2. Therefore, it is strongly advised that the test be done with no outside assistance whatsoever.

All placement tests are free.

Please find below the process for your French placement test.

  1. Email us at info@alliancefrancaise.lk with the following details, requesting to do a placement test.

  2. Written Assessment
    • After emailing us, you will receive the link for your written assessment. You must complete the written part within 2 days of receiving our reply by accessing the link.
    • The test can be accessed on any day of the week.
  3. Speaking Assessment
    • On the day that the written part is completed, you are required to book a slot for the earliest available date for the speaking part, which is online, via Zoom. (Please ensure you have access to the Zoom app)
    • You can book your slot for the speaking test on the Google calendar we sent. They are available on Tuesdays, 12.15-2.15 pm and Fridays, 3-5 pm.
    • Please note that the speaking test is mandatory, and the placement test results cannot be finalized until it has been completed.
    • Please do not cancel your slot directly in Google Calendar. If you are unable to attend, contact us at least 24 hours in advance to request a reschedule. Rescheduling is subject to availability.

Important Notes

  • This is a diagnostic test; there is no passing or failing grade. Its purpose is solely to determine your current level of French.
  • Please be punctual for your speaking appointment, as other candidates are scheduled immediately before and after you.
  • Reschedules can only be arranged if we are notified 24 hours in advance.
  • In the event of a no-show without prior notice, we cannot guarantee an alternative slot, and other candidates will be prioritized.
  • Candidates who contacted us regarding placement tests before 16th March, 4:30 pm, are eligible for the early bird rate of the course fee.
  • Upon completion of both the written and speaking parts of your placement test, we will inform you of your French level at our earliest convenience.

DELF-DALF TOUT PUBLIC

Divided into six levels, corresponding to the scales of the Common European Reference Framework for Languages: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2, DELF-DALF Tout Public assesses the language proficiency of adults (16+ years).
Issued by the French Ministry of Education, DELF DALF are internationally recognised diplomas and are valid for life.

DELF: Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française
Target candidates : Adults and Teenagers (16+ years)
Levels and skills assessed: A1 to B2 – All four language stills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) are assessed, giving equal weightage to each skill.

DALF: Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française
Levels and skills assessed: C1 and C2 – All four language stills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) are assessed, giving equal weightage to each skill with a heavy emphasis on higher-order thinking skills.

*There are 3 options for the candidates to collect their diploma/attestation:

1. Collect the Attestation or Diploma in person from the reception of Alliance Française :
a) Show a valid ID document with a photo to the information officers;
b) Sign the liste d’émargement.
c) Collect your Attestation.

2. Collect the Attestation or Diploma through a designated person By PROXY :
a) The candidate must fill and sign the Proxy Form, and send it to the designated person;
b) Front Desk officers will check the identity of the designated person with a valid ID with photo;
c) Front Desk officers must collect the ID copy of the candidat;
d) The designated person must sign the liste d’émargement provided by the information officers.
e) Only then, the Front Desk officers can remit the diploma to the designated person.

3. Receive the Attestation by email :
a) The candidate must send an email requesting to receive his/her Attestation to info@alliancefrancaise.lk with the same email address the candidate provided in the DELF registration form.
b) The candidate should specify his/her full name, candidate number, date of birth, and the DELF (level, year & session) he/she sat for.

4. Receive the Diploma by post :
The candidate must send by post to Alliance Française de Colombo, 11 Barnes Place, Colombo 7 – Academic Department:
a) A letter requesting to receive his/her Diploma by post. The candidate should specify his full name, his candidate number and the DELF session he/she sat for;
b) A stamped envelope (A4 size) with your address.  Alliance Française de Colombo will verify your postal address before sending the document by post.

Please note that the government has recently revised the postal charges. When sending stamped envelope, kindly confirm with your local post office that the correct and updated postage has been applied in full.
