The band “French Connection” will be performing a selection of international rock, pop and soul covers with a French touch at the Alliance Française de Colombo.
Through the keyboard, guitar, bass, drum and the voice, the French Connection creates a Dancy, groovy session.
As part of Francophonie 2024, a Francophonie Film Festival will be presented from 21st to 23rd of March and will gather 8 countries members of the Francophonie.
Francophonie brings together over 321 million French speakers from around the world. The International Francophonie Day is organized every year around the 20th of March to celebrate the diversity of the French language and the French-speaking world.
To celebrate Francophonie 2024 in Sri Lanka, the Francophonie Film Festival will take place from 21st to 23rd of March at Alliance Française de Colombo (11 Barnes Place, Colombo 7) and will feature 8 films/ documentaries from countries around the globe members of the Francophonie: Belgium, Canada, Egypt, France, Romania, Switzerland, Tunisia, Vietnam. All movies will be screened with English subtitles and entrance is free.
A total of 8 movies of all genres will be shown, which will illustrate the diversity and richness of Francophonie cultures: from drama to comedy, to documentary, short-movie and animated movie.
It is with pleasure that the Alliance Française de Colombo organizes “la fête de la Francophonie” hosting the presentations by the Alliance Française students, on Saturday the 23rd of March from 9.30 to 11.30am where the students are given an opportunity to display their French language skills and to engage in interesting activities as part of the Francophonie celebrations.
The Alliance Française de Colombo welcomes the French langauge students and teachers from Sri Lankan schools to take part in “la journée de la Francophonie” (The day of Francophonie” to celebrate the experience of learning the French langauge on the 20th of March. We have in store an array of engaging activities based on la Francophonie, the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic games, Campus France consultations as well as other creative and literary workshops.
Celebrating “la semaine de la Francophonie” (the week of Francophonie) the Alliance Française de Colombo welcomes the French language students and the lecturers from Sri Lankan universities to take part in a workshop full of presentations, Campus France consultations, screenings, discussions and interesting literary and creative activities on the 19th of March. We are excited to celebrate the joy of learning the French language and getting to know the French culture.
Upon invitation by the Embassy of Switzerland in Sri Lanka, the Swiss singers Marc Aymon and Milla Besson will be performing at the Alliance Française de Colombo for the Francophonie celebrations, on Saturday the 16th of March at 7.00pm at the Alliance Française de Colombo.
The Alliance Française de Colombo invites the operatic baritone Gehan A Cooray and the pianist Menaka Sahabandu for a recital consisting a selection of French Operatic Arias, classical melodies and songs from Broadway and Hollywood.
Gehan’s repertoire for the evening spans across the French operatic composers Georges Bizet, Ambroise Thomas and Charles Gound as well as Italian classics and well known works from musical theatre.
The limited tickets prized at 3000 LKR are available at the Alliance Française de Colombo front office.

The Alliance Française de Colombo is excited to host the Paris-based, Italian illustrator Chiara Armellini for an arts and crafts workshop for kids between the ages of 6-10. Chiara’s workshop will be linked to her book of illustrations “Devinettes en Petits Morceaux” which is based on getting to know animals and their characteristics.
We expect the kids to know how to cut with scissors for the crafts workshop if they are taking part in this delightful experience.
This is a project supported by the French Embassy to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, in partnership with Villa Swagatan by French Institut in India and French Embassy in India.
